About us

A house with a story

Why here

Relais Douet is a traditional Normandy house of pale stone and red brick, standing in the lieu-dit “Le Douet”, a name that in old Norman refers to a small stream or wash-place. Gianfelice discovered it on a trip along the coast and never really left: the light on the bay, the rhythm of the tides and the warmth of the village people made it home.

He restored it with respect for its character, kept the old furniture, planted flowers, and opened two rooms to travellers who want to experience Normandy the slow way.

Our values

What matters to us

Genuine hospitality

You are a guest in a home, not a number in a hotel. We take time to listen and to share.

Local products

Isigny butter and cream, farm cheeses, fresh eggs and fish from the Grandcamp boats: we buy from our neighbours.

Respect for nature & village

Quiet evenings, careful energy use, bikes rather than cars when possible, and a deep respect for the history of these shores.

The area

Grandcamp-Maisy & around

The fishing port

One of the main scallop ports of Normandy. Watch the boats come in and buy fish straight from the fish market.

The coast

Wide beaches, the Baie des Veys and its birds, and the Vélomaritime cycle route to Isigny.

History

Pointe du Hoc, the Maisy Battery and Omaha Beach are all close by: places of memory to visit with time and respect.

Local food

Isigny butter, cream and caramels, oysters from the bay, Camembert and Pont-l’Évêque.
